UK farmers can now register for the 2025 Farm of the Future study tours, a unique opportunity to see first-hand how others in the industry are adapting to new challenges, trialling technologies, and diversifying to build resilience.

Delivered by Innovation for Agriculture on behalf of the Royal Agricultural Society of England (RASE), these events have quickly become a highlight in the RASE calendar. Since 2023, study tours have brought together groups of farmers to explore cutting-edge technologies alongside practical, tried-and-tested approaches that can be applied immediately on farm.

This year, two study tours will run in November:

  • Midlands (12–13 November): This event will include on-farm demonstrations, to see how forward-thinking farmers are reducing inputs, trialling new technologies, pioneering innovative food production systems and diversifying to establish alternative income streams. There will also be a visit to the University of Warwick to explore crop research, growing systems and nature friendly farming.
  • Devon (19–20 November): Attendees of this study tour will look at the use of robotics in the dairy system at North Wyke Farm, as well as exploring nature friendly farming, horticultural options and alternative food supply chain models. There will also be visits to the Apricot Centre and the Dartington Hall Estate for a wider perspective on skills training and rural social enterprises.

Why join a Farm of the Future study tour?

These tours are designed by farmers, for farmers. They provide time away from day-to-day pressures to think differently, meet peers, and gather practical ideas to take home. Benefits include:

Practical inspiration: Explore a range of farming practices that are realistic, accessible, and relevant.

Land management insights: See how others are improving soil, water, and biodiversity while maintaining productivity.

Peer-to-peer learning: Discuss challenges openly in a supportive environment with farmers from across the UK.

Fresh perspective: Step back from your own system and gain new ideas for resilience, diversification, and sustainability.

No matter your farm size, system, or enterprise mix, everyone is welcome to attend. To understand more about what a farm study tour involves, read the write ups from last year’s events in Yorkshire and Hampshire.

What farmers say about study tours

Feedback from past participants shows just how valuable these tours can be. The following quotes are all from participants of the 2024 study tour events:

  • "The diversity of farming systems showcased was eye-opening and thought-provoking."
  • “I don’t think you can underestimate the value in peer-to-peer learning and seeing things in the flesh rather than just reading about it, also being able to ask questions directly to the hosts and presenters. I found the study tour inspiring - the tours and the discussions with the other attendees - and it willhelp me push our own plans to a sustainable and low carbon future.”
  • "A fantastic way to exchange views and gain inspiration from other farmers."
  • “The study tour was an invaluable opportunity to gain practical insights into sustainable farming practices, technological innovations, and the future direction of UK agriculture. It provided a perfect balance of real-world examples, expert discussions, and networking opportunities. The experience has given me a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities in farming.”
