Improving soil health can reduce costs, improve resilience and make farm businesses easier to manage.
Join Innovation for Agriculture and Farm Carbon Toolkit for a practical farm walk at Andrew Mahon’s 800ha farm in Bedfordshire, where a focus on soil health has helped transform both profitability and day-to-day operations on heavy Hanslope clay.
A runner-up in the 2025 Soil Farmer of the Year competition, Andrew will share what has worked in practice and how these approaches could be adapted to other systems.
During the event, attendees will:
- Hear how machinery restructures have supported the transition to a system with reduced cultivations
- See the impact of cover cropping and compost on soil structure across the farm
- Gain practical insights into improving soil health in challenging conditions
- See the farm’s agroforestry project, which features walnut trees interplanted with nitrogen-fixing species such as autumn olive and alder.
This event is for anyone interested in seeing how soil health can boost business resilience.
We warmly encourage attendance from:
- Farmers and farm managers
- Farm workers
- New entrants to farming
- Women in agriculture
- People from diverse backgrounds
- Students and early-career land workers
- Anyone passionate about sustainable food and farming
