Building on the work of the 2025 AKIS meeting, we are running an afternoon of targeted workshops to upskill farm advisers. We will cover agricultural carbon audits, how farms can respond to climate change and network existing organisations and initiatives.

The sessions will focus on how the most up to date information about ‘climate smart’ farming practices (practices which reduce farm emissions, sequester carbon or increase farm resilience) can be shared with farmers to support adoption.

Information will be shared based on our learnings from the EU Horizon projects Climate Farm Demo and Climate Smart Advisors, where advisors from Abacus Agri, ADAS and IfA have supported 150 farms to complete carbon audits and adaptation and mitigation plans, alongside learning from colleagues across 23 EU countries.

Who is the afternoon for?

  • Farm advisors, researchers, policy advisors and industry professionals who work in farmer facing roles delivering advice and guidance to farmers about adapting to climate change.
  • Individuals who wish to learn from other professions and share their own experiences to enable greater collaboration across the agricultural industry
  • Farmers who want to know how to save costs and improve efficiencies based on carbon audit results

Outcomes of the workshops:

  • Hear an impartial overview about three leading UK carbon tools from experienced advisors
  • Gain experience of understanding results from different carbon audits, what this could mean on farm and how an action plan can be written as a result
  • Network with others to build a stronger farm advisory service in the UK for reducing agricultural greenhouse gas emissions and adaptations to climate change

The afternoon follows on from a morning farm walk at Leeds University. Advisors are welcome to apply for a place on the walk, however spaces are primarily reserved for farmers (see more here).

The meeting will start with a social lunch which will be followed by an overview of the work each project has completed to date. No prior involvement with the Climate Smart Farming projects is required.
